Sweets and Snacks Expo: Emerging Flavors

Sweets and Snacks Expo: Emerging Flavors

Recently we attended the Sweets and Snacks Expo in Chicago, Illinois. What follows is the first of four major trends that we saw.

Emerging Flavors

Taste matters most! Big surprise, right?  Here are some emerging flavor trends

  • Sweet n’ Spicy
It’s not “can-you-handle-this?” heat, it’s about the flavor experience that flows from one sensation (sweet) to another. WARHEADS’ brand new HOTHEADS are our favorite, but we may be a little biased.
  • Tropical is in. Jimmy Buffett is still out.
Coconut, pineapple, and mango were accent flavors in everything from chocolate to chips and “tropical” options, were featured in most lines.

  • Move over Willy Wonka.
Chocolate and pumpkin seeds doesn’t quite roll off the tongue like sweet and sour, but it was fantastic! We’re anxious to see how this product does in the market.
  • Nesting Dolls
Flavor experiences through the delivery of “nesting dolls” appeared to be a common theme. The most unusual was the mochi surrounded by a cookie pie.
  • One singular sensation.
Be it pumpkin seeds, chickpeas, or peanuts, we’re seeing a lot of new successful candies popping up that have committed their entire line to a single product.

Next week, we’ll finish off with a post that talks about other “sweet” trends we spotted at the Expo.
